About us:
We are a group of scientists at the University of Oslo (UiO), who have volunteered to take up the challenge of hosting the long running European Conference on Surface Science (ECOSS). This will be the 39th edition of the conference and the first time that it has been held in Norway.
Justin Wells is a Professor of physics at UiO. He leads his own research group ("QuantumWells group") and is currently the head of the research section "Solid State Physics and Quantum Technology", which is part of the "Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology". Simon Cooil is a senior researcher within our section and also the lab manager for our large-scale cleanroom facility "MiNaLab", where he is responsible for a series of QT related upgrades which are currently underway. Richard Schenk and Aurora Teien are Ph.D. students within our research section.
Evgeniy Redekop is an Associate Professor at the department of chemistry at UiO, which is also part of which is part of the "Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology". He is part of the Section for "Catalysis and Organic Chemsitry". Sahra Ahmed is a Ph.D. student within the same section.
Håkon Røst is a researcher at the University of Bergen, in the NanoPhysics group of Prof. Bodil Holst - but Håkon is also a long term guest researcher at UiO, working primarily on 2D materials. Kristin Wells has previously worked as researcher and lab manager in a number of different positions in X-ray physics and chemistry. She currently acts as the financial and administrative support for ECOSS.
We are all volunteers, and we are doing our best to make ECOSS2026 a friendly and welcoming event with a broad impact in world of surface science. We welcome your comments and suggestions to help make ECOSS2026 an event that you will find fruitful and enjoy participating in!
