UPDATE 02/09/2026: Some travel disruption is expected today due to the funeral preparation for King Harald. This applies especially in the area around the parliament ("Stortinget"), the National theatre ("Nationaltheatret") and the palace.
If you are planning to visit UiO today, then it is recommended to take the regional train (RE10, RE11, R12 or R13) to Oslo S (Oslo's main station), and then connect by a short well marked walk to T-bane station Jernbanetorget. Then take T-bane 4 ("Vestli") or 5 ("Sognsvann" or "Ringen via Majorstuen"). This service appears to be running as normal.
The tram (trikk) network appear to be significantly disrupted.
The app or website "Ruter.no" appears to be updated, and the most reliable source of information.

How to get to Oslo
Oslo is well connected to Europe and the rest of the world. The map to the left shows direct routes from the main airport. Other travel options exist too:
OSL, the main airport which is about 20 mins from the city by train
TRF airport, primarily served by budget airlines and further away from the city (connect by bus/train)
Rail: we have connections to Stockholm, Bergen, Trondheim, Gothenburg, Copenhagen and further into Europe
Bus: we are served by the regular long distance coach operators (Flixbus and others)
Ferry: from Oslo city centre, there are very comfortanble direct ferries to Kiel and Copenhagen. If coming by car, consider ferries to Larvik or Gothenburg too.
Getting Around Oslo & Lillestrøm
1. Tickets — the simple version
For most journeys, use the Ruter app or Entur to find your route and buy your ticket. Both are available for download from the App Store and Google Play Store.

If you are staying in Oslo and travelling to Lillestrøm for the conference, consider a 7-day Ruter ticket covering Oslo + Lillestrøm (zones 1 and 2Ø).
7-day ticket: approximately NOK 662 (Ruter, zones 1 + 2Ø)
Covers unlimited travel on Ruter buses, trams and metro, as well as relevant Vy trains within the zones.
Covers travel between Oslo and Lillestrøm, including the conference venue.
Oslo Airport (OSL) is outside these zones, so you need a separate airport ticket (all zones or Flytoget).
A single airport → Oslo/Lillestrøm ticket is approximately NOK 105 (Ruter, zones 2Ø, 3Ø, 4N), depending on your destination.
Flytoget tickets and Ruter tickets are not compatible with each other. Flytoget prices range from NOK 210 (OSL → Lillestrøm) to NOK 268 (OSL → Oslo S/Nationalteateret). Students (< 32 years) with a valid student ID get a 50% discount
Make sure to buy and activate tickets before boarding.
2. Oslo Airport (OSL) → Oslo or Lillestrøm
The easiest option is train. The three main ECOSS destinations are on the same railway corridor: Oslo Airport → Lillestrøm → Oslo S → Nationaltheatret
After collecting your luggage, follow the signs for “Train”. The railway station is directly below the terminal. There are two train services to Lillestrøm and Oslo:
i) Vy train (regular train service: Cheaper option)
Buy tickets in Ruter, Entur or Vy. Tickets are valid for onward public transport connections with Oslo. Take a Vy train from platform 4 towards Oslo and get off at:
Lillestrøm — for the conference (12 mins)
Oslo S — Oslo Central Station (23 mins)
Nationaltheatret — convenient for central/western Oslo (25 mins)
ii) Flytoget (dedicated airport service: more expensive)
Follow the signs for Flytoget (separate entrance, clearly marked). Flytoget also serves Lillestrøm, Oslo S and Nationaltheatret directly. Travel time is approximately 12 min to Lillestrøm and 19 min to Oslo S. Flytoget is more expensive than Vy but is a simple and frequent airport service. It is the better option if travelling very early or very late. Note: Flytoget tickets are not valid on onward connections with public transport in Oslo.
3. Oslo city centre → Lillestrøm Kultursenter
We recommended taking the train.
Go to Oslo S (or Nationalteatret).
Take a Vy train towards Lillestrøm / Eidsvoll / Dal / Lillehammer (Lines RE10, RE11, R12, R13). Travel time: approximately 10–12 minutes.
Get off at Lillestrøm.
Walk approximately 2–5 minutes (168.28 m) to Lillestrøm Kultursenter. There are two exits from Lillestrøm station: Follow signs towards the city centre. Address: Lillestrøm Kultursenter: Kirkegata 11, 2000 Lillestrøm.
[An alternative is Ruter bus 100 from Oslo Bus Terminal to Lillestrøm Bus Terminal, but this takes roughly 45–60 minutes.]
4. Oslo city centre → UiO Campus
The conference-related UiO locations are around Forskningsparken / Blindern.
Forskningsparken
From central Oslo:
Take tram 17 or 18 towards Rikshospitalet.
Get off at Forskningsparken.
Alternatively, take metro line 4 or 5 to Forskningsparken.
Travel time: roughly 15–20 minutes from central Oslo.

5. Taxis
At Oslo Airport, you must either use the app or the official taxi booking machines outside the terminal (to avoid scammers). Taxis, Uber and Bolt are available throughout Oslo and at Oslo Airport. They are convenient but considerably more expensive than public transport.
